At least it isn’t windy this morning.
Indianapolis was below zero for the first time in 2 weeks, and the 4th time this month. (Plenty more times to come.) The coldest temps came right at 5am, when Lafayette dropped to -7. It was -5 in Muncie, -2 in Bloomington and -1 in Indy.
At least it isn’t snowing.
Yet. There will be a few snow showers around later this afternoon and tonight, but this clipper seems to stay farther north. That means an inch or less in Lafayette and Muncie by this evening, and a dusting for Terre Haute, Indy, and Richmond. The front will pass this evening and we enter a zone between low and high pressure that will get the winds agitated again. Expect gusts to 30 mph tonight and early Thursday morning. That means chills down to around 20 below are possible.
That high pressure takes over and keeps things fairly quiet Thursday, although flurries are possible in connection with a Lake Effect event in northern Indiana. Thursday night will be mostly clear and mostly frigid, with the coldest temps yet this week. The wind will ease a bit.
At least we’re not shoveling.
But we will, probably, again this weekend. Two separate waves threaten. The first arrives late Friday night into Saturday morning. The second will be here starting midday Sunday, and either could put down a couple of inches. At that point, we will have officially arrived at the point we seem destined for: the snowiest month in Indiana since December 1978.
