RECAP OF SNOW:
The heaviest snow this time landed on locations north of Indianapolis. I got several 5-6 reports via social media and email from Tipton and Madison Counties. The Indianapolis Airport total was 2.4 inches. The January total is now 23.3 inches. That is (wait for it) 23 inches more than last January at this point. Here are more totals compiled by the National Weather Service and by some of my correspondents:

NWSIndianapolis reports several accidents across central Indiana, incl shutdowns on I-70 (mm131) & I -65 (near Lafayette). Take it slow in the snow.

Totals so far: 1 inch in B Rip and Carmel. inch and a half in Noblesville.

Advisory now extends north to include Huntington, Wells Adams, Blackford , and Jay counties.

Terre Haute reported a 67 mph wind gust last hour.

The daytime round of computer modeling didn’t give any reasons to alter the forecast…so if you like your snow, you can keep it:)

This could be the snowiest January ever. The current record is 30.6 inches from the famous January of 1978. See “Blizzard Of 78.” But even before the first flake flies today, Indy has tied for the 5th snowiest January on record. (YMMV…Indy weather records begin in the late 1800s.) Our 20.9 inch total is part of a seasonal total of just under 30 inches. By tonight we will probably pass by last season’s total for the entire winter.
