And now, the second half of a one-two punch for the history books.
Wind speed is key today, in two ways. First: You will still encounter visibility issues this morning with snow being whipped around by gusts up to 40 mph. For that reason the WINTER STORM WARNING continues until 10 am for central Indiana.
Second: The wind’s effect on *you* is prompting a WIND CHILL WARNING until 7pm Tuesday. Those gusty breezes will drive down chills to as low as 40 below today and tonight. It won’t be as bad by Tuesday night, but the chills won’t go above zero again until Wednesday morning.
I don’t expect more accumulating snow today or tomorrow, although flurries could fly today. We could see 1-3 inches from an upper level system moving in later Wednesday and staying into Thursday. Ready for a little melting? The jet stream flattens mid-week and then finally changes enough to give us above normal temps by Friday. Rain is likely Friday afternoon into Saturday, when we should break the 40 degree mark.
Most reports from yesterday seem to be centered around 10-14 inches, although rain most of the day sharply limited the snow from around Bloomington to Columbus and Shelbyville.
Yesterday’s 11.4 inches of snow in Indianapolis was the 13th biggest on record and brings the seasonal total to 26.4 inches. The average for an ENTIRE season is 25.9 inches.
