Tuesday starts with wind chills running from the single digits into the teens, but that wind is your friend, at least, because it has dispersed the worst of the fog. That wind could whip some light snow back and forth this afternoon. The best chance of the snow is from Lafayette to Muncie and northward, where up to an inch is possible. Otherwise: most of central Indiana, including Indy, will see a dusting through the afternoon. The snow showers could begin by late morning in Lafayette. Winds will gust to 30 mph by afternoon. This latest wave will completely clear the state by mid-evening, leaving the clouds to clear and fog to form again. It could be thick Wednesday morning. Why so foggy this week? That snow that fell this weekend was pretty wet! You know that if you shoveled it, or made a snowman with it. So you have evaporation in progress, and (yesterday) a nearly calm wind. There is also much more mild air not far from us to the southwest and that’s been moving over the top of the colder air near the surface. And our surfaces will be more muddy than snowy this weekend. Over three inches of rain could fall from Thursday night through Sunday! Colder air will arrive later Sunday, but it appears moisture will be largely gone by the time it happens, at least in central Indiana. So…about that White Christmas…..
