Mild and murky today. You’ll fight fog first, and then we’ll try to crack clouds again. Temps should now stay above freezing until Thursday afternoon. And then? We may not go ABOVE freezing through most of next week. Savor that 60 tomorrow. Mostly mid 50s today, and mostly cloudy. The high should hit 52 in Muncie, 54 in Lafayette and Richmond, and 58 in Bloomington. Today will be dry, as we linger in the space between a warm front and a cold front. What a front! A strong storm system is moving across the Western and Central U.S and will bring heavy snow to parts of the Rockies and Northern Plains. The highest snow totals are expected to be in the Central Rockies where up to 24 inches of snow is expected. Further east, parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin may receive up to 18 inches of snow. Once the storm departs, bitterly cold air will follow. Portions of the enormous energy arrive here after midnight tonight and Wednesday – enough, at least, for scattered rain showers. Then the race begins between that bitterly cold air from the northwest, and a wave of low pressure from our southwest. Both will be converging on us Thursday afternoon. By Thursday afternoon drive time surface temps will fall to around freezing in Lafayette, and the mid 30s in most of central Indiana. Light rain mixed with sleet and some snow is possible. Temps will continue to fall Thursday night and any mix will become all snow, and I still think parts of central Indiana could see an inch or two by Friday morning. Icy conditions Thursday night and Friday morning are most likely to the south of central Indiana, and you should monitor that if you have travel plans. Maybe you’ll want to make travel plans to the Tropics after you read this paragraph. Lows will be in the teens Friday and Saturday night. Another shot of snow is likely Sunday night into Monday, followed by an even harder hit of cold weather. One model points to low temps in central Indiana in the single digits Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning next week. INDY ALMANAC: The average high today is 43 and the average low is 28.
