Mother Nature’s busy in the kitchen on the day before Thanksgiving, as a storm system simmers in the northeast, and Lake Effect snow stuffs South Bend. Breezy northwesterly winds gusting to 30 mph in central Indiana could carry leftovers from Michiana, in the form of flurries and snow showers today. Any place from Indy north or eastward could see a snow shower that brings a quick dusting. Don’t sweat the chance in Terre Haute or Bloomington. Up to a foot of snow will accumulate by late this evening around and just to the west of South Bend. The localized storm shouldn’t pose a big problem with the Chicago airports, but heavy snow will fall as south as Plymouth Indiana. A larger storm continues to churn to the East. Two tornadoes were reported yesterday in the Florida Panhandle and Wednesday began with a Tornado Watch in the eastern part of North Carolina. There are some Winter Advisories for light to moderate accumulations in the higher elevations of West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. The bigger problem between DC and NYC for travelers today will be wind and rain. Gusts up to 50 mph in the Big Apple today, Winds could still gust to 40 mph for the Big Parade tomorrow, but the rain will have moved on. The other travel problem will be another batch of accumulating snow off the Lake around Cleveland eastward into upstate New York. The holiday itself in central Indiana should be quiet. And cold. There is finally a chance we’ll get CLOSE to a normal high this weekend, with rain chances by Sunday. INDY ALMANAC: The average high today is 46 and the average low is 31. Records are 70 and 1.
