Beth Jeffries from Facebook sent me the first photo in this post, a picture of a cold air funnel Saturday from the Wayne County Fair. County dispatchers say the funnel did touch down briefly, which is not typical with these circulations. They didn’t report any injuries or damage. That second picture was sent to me by @abloggymom on Twitter, from an outdoor event in Rushville. The Weather Service also reported a cold air funnel 3 miles south/southwest of Shoals in Martin County. Conditions were favorable for them to develop, within a cold-core, broad area of low pressure spinning away. The storms that spawn them aren’t very “tall” and the cold air funnel circulation seldom makes contact with the ground or does damage. They tend to have a smooth, narrow appearance. ]]>
