More severe weather is possible today, after an overnight squall line brought high winds, small hail, and flooding rain to central Indiana.
The wind gusted to 72mph in Boone County at 2:07am, according to a “ham” radio report. Earlier the wind hit 55 mph near Lafayette. A 60 mph gust was reported from just southwest of Bloomington. Four inches of rain fell overnight in northeast Indiana’s Whitley county.
Indianapolis measured just over half an inch of rain between 3 and 5am. A Tornado Watch was in place, but tornado warnings did not follow.
Today’s most likely time for severe weather is the late afternoon through evening time period. Flooding is already a concern. Another inch is possible around the Indy metro area, and another 1-3 inches could fall in western Indiana, where a Flash Flood Watch is in place.
The cold front passage overnight tonight should shut down the storms. It will be less humid Sunday. A few spotty showers are possible in the morning. That’s one change from the ongoing forecast. Not much of a weather weekend, huh?
