I’m attaching an image taken Friday afternoon from a polar-orbiting satellite. It’s a detailed shot of southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana. You can clearly see areas which are snow covered. including lake-effect snow over the near north suburbs of Chicago, and across Porter County in Indiana. O’hare is still in the snow donut hole. SEASON SNOW TOTALS: 15.3″ Indianapolis (normal is 9.6) 9.2″ South Bend (normal is 26.3) 1.3″ Chicago (normal is 11.5) Chicago was actually in the same boat (if you will) last year at this time. South Bend was having a quiet snow season but not this quiet. Indy of course only had 9 inches of snow the entire winter of ’11-’12. AROUND THE WORLD: A severe heat wave has spread over much of Australia since the first of the year, sparking fires.
