The weather brightens up and settles down today. I know that Seasonal Affective Disorder gets some people down, but your SAD won’t be as bad today, after a cloudy start.
Lake effect snow wraps up early around South Bend today. Monday’s 1 inch of snow stopped the record-breaking streak of consecutive days without measurable snowfall from March 5th to December 9th, 2012 at 279 days. This broke the previous record of 272 days set in 1948
Not everyone is Northern Indiana was rooting for the end. Jill Claxton on Facebook this morning says “I would be happy with another 279 days, let’s start all over….the ground is covered here.”
Maybe they were just waiting on Dallas to get some snow. A tenth of an inch of little flakes fell in Big D. That’s more than the trace we had in Indy, although we still beat Dallas, Chicago, and South to the measurable punch.
I had to remind @jlharter of that on Twitter Monday. He asked “How many days has it been since Indy has had a considerable (read: more than a trace) amount of snow? @PaulPoteet? Is it a record?”
Not even close, since we *did* have our brief, but measurable burst of snow on November 12, when two-tenths of an inch was measured.
I don’t think we’ll measure any snow soon. Rain looks likely Saturday, and it’s possible it could mix with a little snow as it is moving out on Sunday.
BTW: the streak is still alive in Chicago. They’ve gone 281 days without measurable snow, breaking the previous record of 280 days in 1994.
Another active weather day is possible in Florida, The southeast has reported 13 tornadoes since Sunday. More tornadoes and damaging winds are possible in today from Tampa to Miami.
