Sandy’s remnants are fading in Pennsylvania today, but the storm system still haunts the Halloween weather maps.
A few showers are possible today, especially in the morning, and especially to the northeast of Indianapolis, enhanced by Lake Michigan.
That’s the Lake that saw waves in excess of 20 feet yesterday. There’s over 700 miles between New York City and New Buffalo, Michigan, but Sandy made a connection. Tuesday wind gusts in the area raised white capped waves topping 22 feet. A million dollar yacht was stranded in a sandbar.
Winds across Indiana were gusty. The farther north and northeast, the higher the speed Tuesday.

Winds whipped around some snowflakes in Indiana. Indianapolis reported the first “trace” of the season. Lima (a city in northwest Ohio) recorded one inch.
No more warnings or advisories today, but winds will still gust to around 25 mph until late this afternoon. Chills will be in the 20s for your trick-or-treaters tonight, and the sky will be cloudy.
Today’s the last day of October, and October will be the second consecutive month in Indy with below normal temperatures. Yesterday’s .14 of an inch of precip gives us an October total of 3.87 inches. The average is 3.02 inches. We’re still around an inch behind for the entire year.
WIKI POTEETIA:
So far (not counting today) 12 days of October have featured measurable precip in Indy. That’s the most since January, with 13 days.
The next rain chance comes later Saturday and Sunday this weekend. The Indy Monumental Marathon says they have a surge of last-minute entries, due to would-be NYC Marathoners who can’t travel in for that race. If you’re running the Monumental, I expect a dry race, with temps warming from the mid 30s into the upper 40s during the course of the morning.
INDY ALMANAC:
The average high today is 60 and the average low is 41. Records are 82 and 24. The sun rises at 8:13 and sets at 6:44.
