You can see the western edge of the Super Storm (formerly known as Sandy) Shower Shield rotating into Indiana from east to west.
Temperature profiles in the atmosphere are also supporting some Super Snowflakes mixing in, as expected.
The WIND ADVISORY stays in place until 8pm tonight. The sustained winds along should run 20-30mph all day long today, but will gust to 40-50mph at times. I would like to run today, but only in one direction:) Maybe I can get Mrs. Poteet to pick me up.
Many have asked me online about running around with their kids for trick or treating. Better news in that department. Winds will ease by then. The gusts will be “down” to 30 mph tonight, and 25 mph during the day tomorrow. By trick-or-treat time, winds will be chilly, but only blowing from 10-15 mph. Sky should be mostly to partly cloudy.
Our snow sightings today are more fun than anything else. How often to do you get to see hurri-snow? But for West Virginians…the snow is a lot more serious. As of early this morning, 18 inches had already fallen in Davis West Virginia. Up to three feet is possible all the way down to the Smokies of East Tennessee.
How…big…was Sandy as a tropical system? At one pint the tropical force winds extended all the way from the border of the Carolinas to Maine. Sandy’s barometric pressure was lower than Oct ’91’s “Perfect Storm. It was the first hurricane to sweep into New Jersey from the southeast since 1803. Sandy officially made landfall near Atlantic City NJ last night at 8pm. It will continue making headlines for weeks.
