It will be a cold and breezy weekend, but at least the sun returns today. Partly cloudy weather is expected Sunday and Monday. Expect frosty conditions the next few nights.
Our attention now turns to the effects of “Franken-storm.” This is the mess expected out of the combination of low pressure over the northeastern US, and tropical system Sandy coming onshore early Tuesday morning.
Hurricane Sandy was briefly downgraded to a tropical storm early Saturday, but winds then increased again to 75 mph. The center at 8am Saturday was about 335 miles southeast of Charleston South Carolina. Sandy is expected to move up and parallel to the coastline this weekend, then make a turn toward Delaware by very early Tuesday morning.
The resulting storm system is expected to move SLOWLY up through the eastern half of Pennsylvania Tuesday and Wednesday. Authorities are still braced for a prolonged period of high winds and heavy precipitation. Some heavy snow is also expected, probably centered around the mountains of West Virginia.
What about Indiana? Trick or treat? It’s quite possible the eastern third of the state could have rain and/or snow showers Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. The entire state will notice breezy conditions and lots of clouds.
