No waiting on the sunshine today–overnight skies were clear, and with little wind around, fog formed in spots. Visibilities around Lafayette dropped under a mile. That’s the worst of any weather today in Indiana. Expect sunshine, and temperatures just a touch above average. That only lasts two days before we drop below average again, which seems to be the default position for October, just as it was in September.
Tuesday morning satellite charts reveal two areas of low pressure. One is in Minnesota and one is in southwest Canada. For our purposes, the one in Canada is the one to watch. It will drag a cold front through the state tomorrow evening. The Storm Prediction Center feels the severe risk on this weather maker will stay south of Indiana, but there will still be gusty winds in front of the front Wednesday. Gusts could get to 30 mph. Rain and storm chances start Wednesday afternoon and they are likely Wednesday night.
Normally I’m a big fan of any weather-related thing named “Paul.” But I could do without the Hurricane of the same name. “Hurricane Paul” starts the day about 200 miles south of Cabo. It is prompting warnings for the western coast of Baja California. The storm’s maximum winds early Tuesday are near 110 mph. The Category Two hurricane is forecast to weaken, but still remain a ‘cane when it hits Baja sometime tonight. It will weaken to a Tropical Storm as it moves over Baja California tomorrow.
Tuesday morning temps in the 30s over much of Indiana may be as cold as it gets for about a week.
The cool rules October over much of the USA so far. In the last week there were 137 high temperature type records versus 857 low temperature type records. There were also 24 new snowfall records set this week in the upper plains.

Tom I know they are very bullish in their asenmssset. They talked about about the dynamic cooling that will occur to overcome BL temps. I know JMA has been worried about that all day in his blogs.
