Can you see the forest for the trees? The latest US Drought Monitor still shows the state in a state of drought, but the picture has improved again from a week ago. Once we’re out of the forest, we *may* look back at August as the turning point in an overall warm and dry pattern. At least the forest is looking a little greener.
Temps will now be below average again until at least next Wednesday. The weekend will be dry, following another super soaker.
More than three-quarters of an inch fell in Indianapolis Thursday evening. Storms brought wind gusts of 51mph in Terre Haute and 53 mph in Bloomington. Trees were downed in Knox, Greene, Monroe, Jackson, and Tippecanoe counties.
Heavy rain soaked Spencer in Owen county, where 3.30 inches was reported. Golf ball size hail (1.75″ diameter) fell in Vigo county. As the attached map shows, the biggest rain fell to the west and to the southwest of Indianapolis, where it is still needed the most.
