Your Cheap Meteorologist never waters his lawn in the summer. I figure it will always come back, and sure enough, after a few (small) recent showers and storms, it’s sorta kinda green again. It actually had to be mowed this week!
If your’s needs trimming, you’re supposed to wait until 6pm. It’s another KnoZone Action Day in Indianapolis. 6pm…that should give you plenty of time to finish before Bob Costas comes on, right?
You can come in from the heat and take a look at London, which has rain and storm chances through the weekend, and highs no warmer than 68 or 70 degrees.
Meanwhile, back home again in Indiana: no LOWS below 68 or 70 for awhile!
Thursday starts pleasantly cool, but temperatures will start soaring again. If I’m off a few degrees and we break the 98 degree record, it would beat the current mark from 1888.
Humidity should stay fairly low today, but Friday and Saturday will be muggy. The next front arives later Saturday into Sunday morning, with scattered showers and storms still looking likely.
I crunched the record-breaking numbers for July in Indianapolis yesterday. Here’s a look at where we stand today on some records still to be broken:
90 Degree Days: Today will be the 45th this season. I think you can bank on us getting to the record of 58, set in 1983.
100 Degree Days: Close today, but I don’t think we will cross the line again for awhile. We’ve had 9 such days so far. The record is 12, from the Dust Bowl summer of 1936.
Average annual temperature: This factors in both highs and lows, and through July it’s 587. degrees. That’s the warmest on record to this point in a year.
No pattern changes are expected through this month, either. The desktop version of this story shows the hot/dry outlook for August from the Climate Prediction Center.
Follow Up File: Down in Oakland City, Indiana, they are still working on restoring power after damagin wind and baseball size hail Tuesday evening. There are no indications it was a tornado, so July officially goes into the book with no twisters in Indiana, continuing a quiet trend from June and the vast majority of May.
INDY ALMANAC:
The average high today is 84. The average low is 65. Records are 98 and 52. Sunrise time is 6:45 and the sunset comes at 8:57.
PAUL’S PREVIOUS PREDICTION:
