Breaking News! We broke a streak!
In the last minutes of Friday in Indianapolis the official temperature fell to 69. That ended, by my count, 22 consecutive days of never falling below 70 degrees. By the way, that streak is a new record, and one of the many reason (for some) that this Summer’s gotten OLD.
Our NEW Weather Pattern of below normal temperatures lasted about as long as New Coke.
Saturday’s highs will jump right back to 90, as high pressure ridges re-stablish at the surface and in the upper atmosphere.
In fact, parts of western Indiana will be flirting again with triple digits next week. The next round of storm chances comes Tuesday.
If “every little bit helps” is really true we can all get excited about the “trace” of Indianapolis Airport precipitation Friday.
The came from several hours of low clouds, drizzle, and temps stuck in the 70s. The Indy high did jump to 82 once the sun took over. That’s the “lowest high” since June 13.
The humidity followed the clouds out the door. The drew point temperature sank from 71 at 9am to 62 by 6pm.
It still won’t be humid today, but those dewpoints will get juicy again Sunday night. That’s a case of “every little bit hurts.”
Even with last week’s rain Indianapolis is still 8.93 inches behind a normal year-to-date total. We have 15.83″ this year. Last year was roughly twice as wet by now, with 30 inches eve on July 21.
One very big positive, though. This year’s severe weather in central Indiana has been a shadow of what we dealt with in 2011, when 72 tornadoes touched down statewide. That broke the old record of 49 from 1990.
