Today’s your best shot at a soaker, even if you’ve been ignored by recent rains.
If I may quote the great Bugs Bunny: “On with the show, this is it!” So let me introduce the cast.
First, surface low pressure starts the day in southeast Iowa and slides slowly southeast, passing the RV’s in Richmond Indiana sometime around midnight tonight, and dragging a cold front through the state. That front will help pull the trigger on the thunder
An upper level wave of low pressure will also play a part in today’s stormy show. The supporting cast includes an actress we’ll call “Southerly Flo.” She’s pumping in plenty of heat and moisture to help sustain the storms.
Once again today the storms could produce big winds, large hail, and soaking rain.
Flooding occurred overnight in northern Indiana, with up to two inches in two hours just south and southwest of South Bend.
Wednesday brought some severe weather to central Indiana. Winds gusted to 60mph and brought down some power lines in Tipton County. Hail was also reported in Tipton county, as well as Howard, Knox, Morgan, Monroe, Greene and Jackson counties.
Over an inch of rain fell in Brown County. And (drum roll) it actually rained at the National Weather Service! Almost half an inch! The .49″ reported at the Airport was the most in one day since the very first day of May.
But: it was all so scattered. My online news feeds were full of jealous weather watchers.
Jason Sipe “We are 1 mile north of the airport.. not a drop. Grrrrrrrr.”
Tim James “South of Tibbs and Raymond-wet cars. North of Tibbs and Raymond? All dry. But at home in Fishers, it looks like we got quite a
bit, comparatively.”
@schultzy24: Just got another shower worth 0.3in. Total for day so far 1.3in. Total last 24 hrs. 1.95in. Greenfield/Maxwell
@dszp: Woohoo! Second thunderstorm in same day in #Indianapolis! (just outside 465 & Kentucky Ave here in Decatur Township)
