A little less heat, but more humidity today. It’ll be hard to top the warmest day in 58 years. Thankfully, we won’t.
My forecast high of 101 would *just* break another record from 1934. It’s 100 to tie, 101 to win!
Triple digits should be limited to the Indy area, and places south today. A cold front sunk into the northern third of the state late Thursday, and it could spark scattered showers and storms over the northern half of Indiana in the afternoons and evenings, now through the weekend. The coverage of the storms would only be about 20 or 30 percent of the area, but IF you get under one…it could be severe.
That happened with hail and high winds in northwest Indiana yesterday evening. The rain got about as far south as Peru. You go, Grissom!
Because of the nearby front, there will be a wider spread in temps from north to south today. North of Indianapolis a Heat Advisory reflects highs in the upper 90s. From Indy southward, still a shot at the Triple Digits, and so an Excessive Heat Warning is in place. I think highs at least in the mid 90s are a safe bet through the Fourth Of July. At least.
Yesterday I wrote of about the “hottest day of your life,” and historic heat was the story.
Indy shattered the daily record of 101, and the monthly June record of 102. It was the hottest day PERIOD since the summer of 1954! Ft. Wayne also broke both the daily and monthly record, and Evansville set a daily record high.
THURSDAY HIGHS:
107 Evansville
106 Ft. Wayne and Muncie and Terre Haute
104 Indy
103 Bloomington
101 Lafayette
100 South Bend
Meanwhile, back at the drought: Indianapolis’ dry spell is now the longest since 1983. If it doesn’t rain at the Airport today or tomorrow – which it probably won’t – it will be not only the driest June on record…it’ll be the driest MONTH on record.
INDY ALMANAC:
The average high today is 85 and the average low is 65. Records are 100 and 48. Sunrise is at 6:20 and sunset comes at 9:17.
UV INDEX:
9 (Very high.)
POLLEN COUNT:
The count is low today and tomorrow. It is forecast to be medium-low Sunday, and then low again Monday.
