Much of the country would like Mister Weatherman to take a flying Leap (Day) today. A storm system is bringing winter storm and blizzard conditions to the northern plains and upper Midwest, severe weather to the central plains and Ohio Valley, and strong winds to the southern plains. Central Indiana is under a WIND ADVISORY from 9am until 7pm. Gusts of up to 45 mph are expected! The day begins with a Tornado Watch down in southern Indiana. That’s from a line of dangerous storms now heading out of Missouri.
They will never forget Leap Day in Branson. A possible tornado was reported just before 1:30 am local time. The National Weather Service said trees were down in many parts of town, including the historic downtown area along Lake Taneycomo. There are reports of damage along Branson’s famous Highway 76 strip and the downtown area. Good news: early reports say there are no confirmed injuries. Earlier, the storm slammed into the Kimberling City area on Table Rock Lake, where there are reports of widespread damage.
Our threat is mainly in the morning today, and some sun should poke through for a mild Wednesday afternoon. The next weather maker arrives with rain and storms Friday afternoon, and it still looks like a cooler weekend, but no mo’ snow in the 7 Day! The February 2012 total for Indy will go into the books at 2.2 inches. Maybe it will be this mild again NEXT Leap Year.

INDY ALMANAC:
Average high today is 45, and the average low is 28. The competition for records today is interesting because it, of course, has fewer candidates. Every four years in America, there’s a Presidential Race, and an easier chance to get into the record books. The Leap Day high record is 74, from 1972, the year Richard Nixon won election. The Leap Day low of -2 was set in 1884, they year Grover Cleveland got the nod. Sunrise today is 7:19, and sunset is 6:37.
