Monday brings a chilly start, with the coolest morning temperature since last Monday. If President’s Day is a holiday for you, enjoy the sun. Presidents and weather don’t always work well together. The most tragic example is from 1841, when William Henry Harrison was sworn into office on a cloudy, cold and blustery day. He gave a speech lasting one hour and 40 minutes, and rode a horse to and from the Capitol without a hat or overcoat. He caught a lingering cold that day and died just one month later from pneumonia.
No cold weather drama this work week around here. We will be back above average by afternoon. Big breezes could bring wind gusts of 30 mph Tuesday and 25 mph Wednesday. The best rain chance is Tuesday morning. I expect we’ll see between one tenth and one quarter of an inch. Some of the rain early Tuesday could mix with snow flakes from around Lafayette to Logansport to Ft. Wayne northward. Other than that, I’m not forecasting any central Indiana snow until a chance of snow showers Friday night.
We’ve only had a couple inches of February snow this year, but just two years ago the February total was 17.5 inches. In Feb 2007 there was 18.2 inches. And as recently as Feb 2003 21.7 inches fell…in the snowiest February ever. Sometimes the shortest month seems the longest.
