Another small shot at snow is ahead for Indy, but today’s drive times will be dry. A large, but relatively weak upper level wave in the atmosphere is moving into town, unpacking clouds first, and precipitation later. Snow should start this evening, and continue on and off through tomorrow morning. Around an inch to an inch and a half is possible in the metro area. Totals could be a touch higher in west central and southwest Indiana, where up to two inches is possible. Once again, any snow won’t stay. Temperatures go back above average Wednesday, and stay near or above normal through next weekend. And by then, it’s the second half of February! Soon we’ll be living on borrowed winter time.
In case you weren’t paying attention over the weekend, the latest snow brought the Indianapolis seasonal total to 7.4 inches. The average snowfall at this point in the season is 19.8 inches, and we’d cruised (slid? skied?) to 33.5 inches by February 13, 2011.
Want snow? Fly your Lear Jet up to Novia Scotia. (And if you’re all smug about understanding that song lyric reference, then you’re…so vain.) Yesterday’s Nova Scotia totals topped a foot, and the winds gusted to 50 mph in that part of the Great White North. Wind speeds were even higher in Newfoundland.
