What’s the biggest weather story today? The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind. Blame last night’s Arctic cold front for frigid, frisky breezes gusting to 30 mph today. That will keep chills in the single digits during the day, and near zero tonight. It won’t be quite as windy tomorrow, and the prospects of sun are stronger. Today you’ll get mostly to partly cloudy skies, and flurries might be around, especially in the morning and midday, and especially to the north and northeast of Indianapolis.
Highs across Indiana today in some of my radio cities: 21 in Lafayette, 22 in Marion/Muncie, 23 in South Bend, Anderson and Indy, and 26 in Evansville. Morning and midday Lake Effect snow in South Bend – combined with yesterday – should yield a total of 2-4 inches. (I know, I promised you 1-3 on Friday morning’s broadcasts.)
I talk about the next two storm systems in today’s Star@Sunrise weather video, but neither will have you reaching for the shovel. Temps should return to above normal Wednesday.

Temperatures have been way BELOW normal in Europe, and snow has also fallen in some unusual places. Rome, Italy for example has picked up significant snow twice in the last week.
Meanwhile, back in the USA, the unusually mild weather for many this winter has produced an interesting effect. Areas that are typically cold enough to produce “ice wine” have struggled. To earn the designation of ice wine the product has to come from grapes that were at least partially frozen on the vine. That requires temperatures down to at least about 17 degrees, to solidify the water inside the fruit. When the dehydrated grapes is pressed, what emerges is the sugary portion of the juice, which ends up as ice wine, which has become very popular lately. Would-be ice wine makers in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New York haven’t had a sweet season so far. But if Vanilla Ice can comeback, anything’s possible!
