A mild and wild start in the state today. OVERNIGHT temperatures have been averaging about 20 degrees higher than our average high temp at this point in the winter.
How spring-like is it? A tornado watch has been in place overnight in portions of central Illinois and Missouri. So far, just reports of large hail from those storms, firing close to a surface cold front. That front is still expected to cross Indiana in the morning. Expect winds gusting to 35 mph, along with steady rain, and even some thunder.
Behind the front, support for precipitation should shut off quickly. Temperatures will start to fall, and should be into the 30’s by afternoon rush hour. Bring an extra layer for later. Light rain and/or snow showers are possible in the mid to late afternoon, with little or no accumulation outside of Lake effect areas in the north, where a quick inch or two is possible.
A free space on the weather wheel Wednesday, and two more waves this work week. The better chance of anything is Thursday with both rain and snow chances in central Indiana. We might squeeze an inch out of that one, with one to three inches in northern Indiana. Just some rain and snow showers Friday, then another above average weekend, with mainly dry weather.
Thunder’s not out of the question again next Monday, as the first system of the new week has the potential to light up the radar, and the skies.
