Three people are dead after a tornado touchdown in the small town of Cincinnati in northwestern Arkansas. Thunderstorms could be severe today any place south of the Ohio River. We in Indiana will hear some thunder New Year’s Eve as a cold front comes in to shut down the melt down. Indiana temps on New Years Day morning will into the upper to mid 30’s for the day. There could be a few early morning rain showers.
Holiday weather will be fine in Times Square, but nasty in many places.
Denver is coming off its first big snow of the season. Blizzard conditions are a problem in northern and western Minnesota, eastern North Dakota and much of South Dakota this evening through Saturday morning. Snowfall totals from this second of back-to-back storms will approach a foot in some locations, and the combination of snow and blowing snow will reduce visibility to near zero at times. Wind chill temperatures will plummet into the minus teens and 20s.
While the heaviest snowfall will have ended in western parts of this region by midnight, blowing snow and extreme cold will persist. Snow will begin to move eastward into northern Wisconsin and the upper peninsula of Michigan.
