A man was killed by a snowplow in Tippecanoe county last night. The crash happened just after 9:00 PM along I-65 near State Road 26. The man was walking south along the shoulder of the road when the plow hit him. Police don’t think the man was a driver from a stranded car. Passing drivers had called the cops about the guy just before the crash. It’s being investigated. Poor visibility from blowing snow may be a big factor.
BTW: I’m hearing traffic reports of a jackknifed semi blocking northbound lanes of I-65 this morning in White County.
Earlier an ambulance overturned on I-65 southbound at the Boone County/Clinton County line. Also in Boone County, a U-Hall overturned in the eastbound lanes of I-74 at the 47 mile marker. There were no serious injuries in either event.
Last night in Grant County, police closed both southbound lanes of I-69 at the Gas City exit because of slide offs and crashes.
The Indianapolis Department of Public Works has a full crew out on city streets and they’ve been spreading salt throughout most of the night. But their biggest challenge will be the wind-blown snow. Official snow totals from yesterday through early this morning range between 1 and 2 inches, but there’s been blowing and drifting. A Winter Weather Advisory will roll until Noon for much of the state.
