Got any bread? I gotta load up and taper down this week to get ready for Saturday’s Indianapolis Monumental Marathon. I’m just doing the half this year, due to a lack of training. The only marathon I’ve ever run was the inaugural version of this race last year. Several hours and 26 miles later I found myself in the Steak ‘N Shake drive through, urgently demanding a triple cheeseburger with fries and a large milkshake. You gotta have rewards sometimes.
Part of my reward is hanging out with my first-born. My son and I do some of these events together, and it’s always a good time. Although, as I would remind him, my race time is better. For now. I believe he has the long-term advantage here.
I need new running shoes after this next race. My friend Tom Davis just bought a pair after 330 miles. If I go all 13.1 this Saturday that will make 373 on my wheels since I bought them at the end of April. But who’s counting? I will be…Saturday. Wish me luck.
