With a low of -12 degrees, Friday, January 16, 2009 becomes the coldest day in 12 years in Indianapolis. The last day as cold as today was back on the 12th of January 1997, also a low of -12.
Colder temperatures reported in Indiana at 7 am EST included 19 below zero in Lafayette, 22 below zero at Attica in Fountain County and -26 degrees at Angola in Steuben County. The Indiana state record low temperature is -36 degrees set at New Whitleland in Johnson County during January 1994.
Bitterly cold weather will continue today as temperatures will remain near or below zero through early Friday afternoon. The morning low temperatures today will be the coldest since 1994 in Lafayette and Muncie, 1997 at Indianapolis, and will be the coldest since 2004 in Terre Haute and Bloomington.
