Talk about the center of the media universe. Our little TV news show hosted Jesse Jackson as an in studio guest this morning, thanks to some behind-the-scenes work by Channel 6’s Director of Community Affairs Terri Cope-Walton. When she set up the interview, however, she didn’t know that Jackson would be making news with an off-hand, yet on-microphone comment about Barack Obama.
Dan and Grace gave him the grilling this morning, and you can read about the event in Grace’s blog over at theindychannel.com. And my part in this major story? It was about 7:40, just after I’d been on WXNT radio, and right before my window with WMDH. I walked from my radio booth over to the weather office desk and was surprised to see our celebrity by himself in the wings of Studio A, looking a little lost. “Are you looking for a way outta here?” I asked. He had done a live interview with “Good Morning America” already from our newsroom down the hall. He told me he had to go back to the newsroom. Apparently CNN wanted some face time also. So I told ’em (and showed him) where to go. I wish I could say I have proof on tape. But the camera–and microphones–were off.
