Indiana’s Weather For Friday

January 19, 2018

It appears we are swinging toward two or three weeks of temperatures that are nearly normal or just above average.

The European computer modeling shows the milder trend holding through the first week of February.

Today is the anniversary of Indy’s coldest day. The morning low in Indianapolis on January 19, 1994 was 27 below zero. Indy’s had over 10 days when the temperature was -20 degrees or colder since weather records began in the late 1800s.

Coldest temperature ever officially recorded in the state of Indiana is -36 degrees, on the same day in 1994, in New Whiteland, just south of Indy.

January 19 also chilled these cities:
-27 Richmond
-29 Muncie

BTW: The hottest temp ever in Indy was 106 degrees. It’s a record set in three years: 1901, 1934, and 1936. Many high temperature records of the Dust Bowl era still stand, but Indy got close during the hot summer of 2012. The high temp hit 105 on two different days.

Yesterday’s high was 31 in Indy. My forecast was 32.

The average high today is 35 and the average low is 20. Records are 69 (1907) and (as mentioned above) -27 (1994.) Sunrise time is 8:03am and sets at 5:50pm.

Today: Sunny again. Wind: SW 5-15, with gusts to 25 mph. High 37.

Tonight: Mostly clear. Low 29.
Saturday: Partly sunny. High 43.
Saturday Night: Partly to mostly cloudy. Shower chances after midnight. Low 36.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy. Slight shower chances. High 47.

Sunday Night: Rainy. Low 42.
Monday: Rainy. High 50.

Monday Night: Showers diminish, perhaps mixed with a little snow. Low 30.

Tuesday: Mostly to partly cloudy. Chance of morning snow showers. High 36.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy. Low 26.

Wednesday: Partly sunny. High 37.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy. Low 23.

Thursday: Partly sunny. High 44.

I am hoping Northern IN/Lower SW MI fares nearly as well.
