The biggest snow we had last Winter was on Valentine’s Day. It wasn’t much…just 2.2 inches on Feb. 14, 2016. There was a trace on Valentine’s Day in 2015.
The biggest February 14th snowfall in Indy records was in 2014, when 5.5 inches fell. (That was the last really nasty Winter around here.)
February 14, 2007 – Longtime Indianapolis florists probably remember this day. Central Indiana was wrapping up a two-day storm that was the biggest of the winter season. There was 8.5 inches of snow in Indianapolis, and 12-17 inches fell from around Anderson through Hamilton County and up to Lafayette.
The snow began during the evening of February 12th, moving from the southwest to northeast across Central Indiana. The snow continued at Indianapolis for nearly 30 hours. Blowing and drifting of snow became problematic during the evening of February 13th and during the early morning hours of Valentines Day. Snow drifts caused the most problems in the areas that received the most snow, mainly north of Interstate 70, where many roses never made it to their destination.
Snow amounts with the storm were heaviest along a Lafayette to Muncie line. Many cities along this line received over a foot of snow. The largest amount of snow was measured in Lafayette, with 17 inches. This ranks a tie for the second largest snowfall over a three day period in Lafayette. The largest snowfall in Lafayette was 20.5 inches on December 19-20, 1929.
