Can’t argue with that, but the answer I was going for was that the first of December is the first day of meteorological winter. Astronomically, the seasons change at the equinoxes and the solstices. However, the meteorological seasons are grouped by months. Why? Don’t ask! OK, go ahead and ask. These months correspond to the lowest average temperatures. In other words: December, January and February in the Northern Hemisphere, and June, July and August in the Southern Hemisphere. So: happy meteorological winter. Just a trace of rain fell yesterday, so the November 2015 precipitation total for Indy ends up at 2.86 inches. The average is 3.70. We came up short in meteorological *fall*, with 6.38 since September 1, versus a 9.94 average. Snow so far in Indy is holding at 1.3 inches. The average is 1.1, and last year we’d already gotten 2.7 inches by the first of this month. TODAY Expect just a few spotty showers in the morning. We’re done with that by afternoon, with the sun peeking through. Watch that blue to the west of us. TOMORROW Annnnnd that blue gets here…with a little pink and green. Should be light rain and snow showers, mainly Indy northward. All snow showers Wednesday night, perhaps with a dusting on some surfaces if it can last long enough. PAUL’S PREVIOUS PREDICTION Yesterday’s high was 50. My forecast was 50. INDY ALMANAC The average high today is 44 and the average low is 29. Records are 70 and 4. The sunrise time is 7:47 am and the sun sets at 5:21 pm. INDY SEVEN DAY FORECAST Today: A few spotty morning showers. Some breaks in the clouds this afternoon. High 50. Tonight: Partly cloudy.
