Indianapolis didn’t set a record low this morning, but it was close. The record of 51 from 1881 still stands, but we ARE on track for a record-cold July average temperature.
Morning lows did hit the 40s in parts of Indiana. Here are the official numbers:
47 Muncie
48 Fort Wayne
50 South Bend
50 Lafayette
51 Terre Haute
52 Indianapolis
52 Bloomington
There will be less cloudiness than there was yesterday, and the breeze won’t be as strong. It will be a few degrees warmer in the afternoon, but even in the mid 70s we are still running about ten degrees below average. There is a chance of afternoon showers and storms popping up across Indiana, mainly in the northern two-thirds of the state.
Blame Canada! A broad upper level low is parked over Eastern Canada. Weak waves will rotate around that low and move across the area, but they’ll need a spark from daytime sunshine and heating to generate any rain. The best intersection of ingredients comes Wednesday, Friday and Saturday afternoons, but even then just 30% of the are would be likely to see a shower or hear thunder.
The pattern should break Sunday, allowing near normal temperatures for just a few days, and plenty of sun for the second half of the weekend. Expect the same Monday, and the arrival of a front Tuesday spells another shower and storm chance.
