Delightful deja vu today, with clouds thickening a bit in the afternoon and evening. The morning again began with lows in the 50s. That’s the 9th time this month in Indianapolis. Highs will range from around 80 in Lafayette and Indy to the upper 70s in Muncie and Richmond, and low 80s in Terre Haute and Bloomington.
A warm front approaches overnight into early Saturday morning and could help focus a few showers and storms. It will also usher in more typical, tropical air for both days of the weekend.
Much of daytime Saturday should be rain-free, with only slight storm chances. The hot and humid atmosphere will become extremely unstable by late afternoon, with storms likely by evening. The upper atmosphere will be active, a surface cold front will be approaching from the northwest, and the entire area remains under a slight risk of severe weather. The main threats are damaging wind gusts and heavy rain.
Those storms should be ending fairly early Sunday, but more could fire by afternoon near the cold front, which will stalled right around Indy in the morning. (You know how Race Day traffic can be.) That front will then push to the south of us Sunday night, ending the drama, and starting another couple of less humid days in the 70s. There could be a few light showers Monday east of Indy, but otherwise the next rain chance wouldn’t be until later in the week.
