First things first for Friday: The weekend weather won’t get in your way. You might notice a little more humidity by later Sunday, but a storm system to the south should stay just far enough away to keep rain out of our forecast. The one sliver of the state that could see a shower would be from around Richmond eastward.
We are heading back to typically summer-like weather, but it’s a delightfully slow trip. It will still drop to the 50s one more time Friday night.
The July average temp so far in Indy is 70.6 degrees, about 5 below normal. If the month stopped right now – it would be the coolest on record. We will get all hot and humid about half of next week, but then there’s another retreat. I think we’ll easily end in the top ten for coolest July temps. PS: We won’t end up in the top ten for lack of rain – too much already. Nonetheless, our recently lack of precipitation isn’t changing for awhile.
While I’ve got my calculator out: this is also the longest Summer stretch without a 90 degree day since 2004, when we didn’t have any. The average is 18. I hasten to add that Muncie, Terre Haute, and Bloomington have all notched a couple days right at 90 or 91, and your mileage may vary, but the trend is clear.
We should get close at least two days next week, as an upper level ridge builds ahead of our next widespread rain chance, with a frontal system Wednesday and Thursday.
