Indiana’s Weather For Wednesday

February 6, 2013

seven-day-indy-scaled

For the first time in a week I wrote a forecast with no chance of snow – or snow showers or snow squalls or snow flurries.

A dome of high pressure puts the lid on precipitation, but it WILL still be cloudy for at least the first part of the day, thanks to a persistent deck of stratus clouds that hung tough overnight. Rain chances return tomorrow, but I don’t think it will really kick in until afternoon. Rain is likely Thursday night. I think precipitation amounts will stay under a quarter of an inch. That’s OK – all the state with the exception of far northern Indiana is out of the drought. Indy’s year-to-date precip is about 5 and a half inches, and that’s 3 inches above average.

There is a chance that Thursday night’s rain will mix with snowflakes as it ends north of Indy, including Lafayette and Muncie.

Making weekend plans early? Go for Saturday. Just a shade above normal, with sunshine. Sunday brings rain by afternoon and evening. The temperature trend this next week is near or a little above average. The latest 6-10 day outlook (covering next week) has all but the western third of the state with above average temperatures. Sorry Lafayette and Terre Haute! The entire state is above average for precipitation. Looks like the biggest storm next week would hit Indiana right around Valentines Day. Guess Mister Weatherman won’t be getting chocolates.

INDY ALMANAC:
The average high today is 38 and the average low is 22. Records are 64 and -12. The sunrise time is 7:48 and the sun sets at 6:11.

PAUL’S PREVIOUS PREDICTION:
Yesterday’s high was 36. The forecast was 34.
