History-making weather….is history.
Mind you: it’s still above average today. Even as temperatures settle in the low to mid 50s, that’s STILL ten degrees above normal. A cold front will move through the state, spawning showers. I expect to see anywhere from a quarter to a half inch of precipitation.
HOW WARM.. WAS IT? PART ONE:
Monday was more than 25 degrees above normal. Indy tied the 1982 record high by hitting 69 degrees at 3:37 pm. Evansville missed a record by three degrees, and South Bend by two degrees.
MONDAY HIGHS:
73 Evansville
72 Terre Haute
71 Bloomington
71 Shelbyville
70 Lafayette
68 Muncie
65 South Bend
64 Fort Wayne
South Bend didn’t set a temperature record yesterday, but they did set another record, with the 273rd consecutive day without measurable snow. The old record was 272 in 1948.
HOW WARM… WAS IT? PART TWO:
The National Weather Service crunched the numbers and reports that temperatures of 68 degrees and higher have occurred only 14 times in December since 1871, and only twice has the 70-degree mark been reached.
Of course, this follows the coldest November in 10 years, so (as with most things “weather”) things can change quickly. It’s gonna snow eventually:)
HOW WARM.. WAS IT? PART THREE:
Facebook follower “Jay Zee” noted this group of middle-of-the-night numbers:
1:00 AM:
Tampa, FL: 61 degrees
San Diego, CA: 61 degrees
Phoenix, AZ: 63 degrees
Mishawaka, IN: 64 degrees
Also online yesterday, I tweeted the record warmth and added “Merry Christmas!” I got the perfect response from @Coltsfamtam: “MeleKanekemaka…”
INDY ALMANAC:
The average high today is 43 and the average low is 28. Records are 70 and 5. The sun rises at 7:50 and sets at 5:21.
PAUL’S PREVIOUS PREDICTION:
Yesterday’s high was a record-tying 69. The forecast was 70.
UV INDEX:
0 (Low.)
