Middle of November? How did that happen?
The month so far in Indy has been cold and dry. Today starts in the below-normal 20s for the fourth consecutive morning. If you throw all of our November readings into a blender, the average is 42.0 degrees. That’s 5.2 below average.
Today won’t be much warmer. It’s weather deja vu all over again, with sunshine self-destructing in the afternoon, as another upper wave whips through the state. Clouds will thicken from mid afternoon through mid evening.
Clouds cleared right around sunset yesterday (sailor’s delight!) and – thanks to a nearly New Moon – there was a pretty good view of Jupiter off to the east-northeast.
Indiana University sky watcher Hal Kibbey says Jupiter’s four brightest moons will be visible with binoculars this month. Nearby on the right (south) will be the bright orange star Aldebaran.
From the black sky to the black Friday forecast now: looks good! Mother Nature should be offering a special on sunshine. Good news for the Tree Lighting festivities Downtown.
Working my way backwards…I think Thanksgiving will be nice, with high pressure in control. A weak area of low pressure should cross the state on the busy travel day before the holiday, so there might be a shower or two…or there may just be some clouds.
This month hasn’t been very productive for precipitation. Halfway through November we are .59″ of an inch below normal. The year to date deficit is back up to 2.07 inches. The actual year to date total is 35.16 inches.
WIKI-POTEETIA:
Monday morning brought .2″ of snow to Indy, so our season-to-date total is .4″ below average. So far:)
