A dreary day that revolves around low pressure moving into Kentucky on its way to southeast Indiana by tonight. An upper level low starts the day near St. Louis. The weather deck is stacked against you. Expect scattered light showers today. There could be some sprinkles or drizzle. As the low starts wobbling westward tonight the intensity may pick up again.
The official rain total Monday in Indy was .25 of an inch, mostly in the evening. Another .41″ fell overnight. That brings our year to date deficit down under two inches. Maybe we’ll be above average by the end of the year. (Hopefully because of big snows. But that’s just me.)
We had a wet September, but it was the third driest September on record at Seattle. A big upper ridge is bringing the heat out west. It’ll be warmer in central and northern Canada today than it is here. The Los Angeles weather service is forecasting 80s at the beaches today, but 90-100 inland.
With the jet stream so far north there’s nothing to kick out the area of upper level low pressure that is sitting and spinning over the Ohio River Valley.
A front finally takes care of that, approaching from the west Thursday. In front of the front: one nice day! Highs hit 80 in parts of the state. Showers and storms will arrive late Thursday night, followed by another shot of even colder air Friday through the weekend.
The average high today is 71 and the average low is 49. Records are 89 and 29. The sunrise time is 7:43 and the sunset comes at 7:25.
