Six of the first eight days of August in Indianapolis featured highs in the 90s. It hasn’t been above 90 again since then.
(There’s something I always like to add right about now: “SHHH!”)
Of course, that particular streak ended with a bang. The high August 8 was 98 degrees. It was the 49th time we hit 90 this summer. Are we going to make it to 50? Our best chance this week is Thursday and Friday.
The record year of 58 90 degree days from 1983 is still within our sights, but its now just a bit less inevitable. The 8-14 Day Forecast through about Labor Day indicates below average temperatures, and average precipitation. Covering that would be a Labor Of Love.
This past weekend looked to me to be the busiest in Indianapolis since….that football game that happened after they set up the Zipline. Luckily, we had some spectacular weather. The temperature will be about the same today, with a slight shower and storm chance. The good news: no more chances until next weekend. The bad news: no more chances until next weekend.
Your lawn is greener, but there is still a drought. The Indianapolis year-to-date precipitation total stands at 21.02 inches. It should be 28.12 at this point in the year. Last year it was 31.13 by now.
COAST TO COAST:
The biggest rains today will fall from Florida up to North Carolina, with flooding possible. The West hasn’t enjoyed the break from the heat that we’ve gotten. There are 35 un-contained large fires at the moment. Storms with lightning and gusty winds are possible today.

There are four different systems at the moment. The Caribbean may be threatened by “Isaac” later this week.
