Indiana’s Weather For Monday

August 6, 2012

seven-day-indy-scaled

Today features lower humidity, a bluer sky, and greener grass.

Indiana’s weekend weather was wetter than Michael Phelps’ laundry. We finally struck precipitation Gold, with biggest one-day total in Indy since the first of May!

The first of May was also the last time a tornado had been confirmed in the state, and that also returned this weekend, thankfully on a small scale. The rough weather in Northern Indiana late Saturday afternoon spawned small tornado in the La Porte county town of Rolling Prairie. There was damage to a carport and the roof at one residence, and a barn was destroyed nearby.

My Facebook & Twitter accounts filled up faster than the rain gauges. Just a couple:
@bradmeiser on Twitter: “1.7 inches in Broad Ripple”
David Millhoan ‎on Facebook: “2.0 in Knightstown!!!!!!!!!”
Mike Hartman on Facebook: “We had 1.4 in the home gauge this morning (in Franklin.)”

But not everyone was Singin’ In The Rain. Totals were lowest just southwest of Indy. I’ve attached a complete map of totals, and you can see some huge differences. All in all, however, the most widespread rain event in months was a sight for sore…dry eyes.

OFFICIAL WEEKEND TOTALS:
1.82″ South Bend
1.51″ Indianapolis
1.31″ Fort Wayne
0.41″ Evansville
0.19″ Muncie
0.05″ Bloomington
0.01″ Terre Haute

WIKI-POTEETIA:
Indy hit the upper 80′s Sunday, and should return there today. If that forecast holds: it’ll be the first back to back days under 90 degrees since June 25-26! Yesterday’s high of 79 in South Bend was the first high temp in the 70s there since June 13.

UPDATED INDIANAPOLIS SCOREBOARD:
17.49″ Precipitation year-to-date
26.73″ Normal by this time
9.24″ Deficit at this time
30.36″ LAST year’s total by now
