I’ve attached a purty pic from Facebook Monday morning, taken near Devil’s Lake, North Dakota, by Laura Hedien. (Full size.)
As the result of a big solar flare on July 12, skywatchers to the north this past weekend sighted Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights. The closest report I got over the weekend was from Niles Michigan.
The bright pulsing, dancing lights of the aurora occur when electrically charged particles from the sun enter the Earth’s atmosphere.
Here’s another sky shot – this one is from my Facebook Friend Bill Padget. (Full size.) He’s sharing his view of The Pleiades, Jupiter, Venus, and the Moon, all via Sharpsville Indiana. Thanks Bill!
