I try to avoid saying or writing “carbon copy” these days. Isn’t that like a “broken record?’ Well, today’s weather will be a near-carbon copy, and if that’s confusing, go find an older person.
Indy highs will be just into the 90s and it will again be very dry. Still no new records in our near future, although the heat might ratchet up another notch sometime NEXT week.
It’s certainly building again in the western part of the country, where daytime high temperatures will reach into the upper 90s to 100s this week. Southwest desert temps could get INTO the “120s.” Imagine last Saturday around here PLUS another 20 degrees.
Considering our ongoing drought, there may be uncharacteristic excitement about weekend rain chances. I’ve got ’em in the forecast Friday through Sunday. An upper level trough of low pressure will sashay through the Deep South and should brush central Indiana with at least 40 percent rain chances. Probably less of a chance by the time you get northwest to Lafayette, and probably no chance once you get to to around the Toll Road.
You tell me this is a coincidence: the sudden weekend of rain chances coincides with indie rock band “Vampire Weekend” playing the Old National Centre Friday night. Creepy!
And the rain chances start on Friday the 13th. But-rain would be good luck, right?
Speaking of shows, the weather should be ideal for the Vans Warped Tour at Klipsch this afternoon and tonight and O.A.R. at the White River Park Thursday night. Dry, with temps falling through the 80s in the evening hours. It might be a bit muggier by Thursday night.
“GregM” on Twitter writes: “you keep mentioning that 106 all time record in Indy. What’s the record for the state?” Greg, THAT record’s even worse, and like many of our other high temps high marks, it dates back to the 1930s. Collegeville Indiana hit 116 in 1936! Here are some records that cover the entire state. That “maximum snow in 24 hours” record was less than 8 years ago. I feel cooler already.
Maximum temperature ever recorded: 116F at Collegeville in 1936.
Minimum temperature ever recorded: -36F at New Whiteland in 1994.
Most days over 90F: 105 times in 1953 at Evansville.
Most days over 100F: 33 times in 1955 at Evansville.Maximum snow: Jan 26, 1978 , Up to 20 inches central/south with 40″ up north.
Snow in 24 hours: 30″ recorded in December 2004 at southern and east central Indiana.
WIKI-POTEETIA:
(Could be worse department.) In 1980 the temperature in downtown Kansas City MO hit 109 degrees. The morning low was 89!
