I’ll be honest with you. I left the Office to write this update from my porch. Take a little time to enjoy the View! (Not THAT one.) Friday morning fog gave way to some beautiful blue sky, and dry, comfortable air is moving in behind yesterday’s cold front.
That front brought some showers and storms. Absolutely nothing fell officially at the Indianapolis Weather Service, which probably cinches the driest-ever-June title. The Airport is stalled at .05 inches with just a week to go.
RAIN TOTALS THURSDAY:
1.63″ near Galveston in Cass County
1.53″ northwest of Kokomo
1.07″ south side of Lafayette
0.34″ just north of Brownsburg
0.28″ northwest corner of Marion County
0.15″ near Carmel
0.00″ Indy Airport (southwest side)
0.00″ Greenwood
I’ve also attached a map of rainfall yesterday, and that’s clearly a civil weather war that the North won.
People were so excited by rain Thursday…they hit my Twitter hard with pics. I actually read that “rain” was a Trending Topic for awhile late Thursday afternoon. (Weather is NOT what cause Twitter to choke yesterday.) Meanwhile on Facebook, David Millhoan responded to my latest “scattered” forecast with “We dont need scattered we need smothered!!!!”
Maybe later Sunday? That’s our next Scattered Stuff. A cold front is coming later Sunday and could spark showers and storms. Temperatures behind that front will be COOLER than average (I thought that was worth shouting about) the first half of the next work week.
TROPICAL SOUP:
A disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico will dump up to 5 inches of rain along the Florida Coast & Keys this weekend.

I LOVE this book. It’s a big photographic book of rtocaneiens, in which the Wampanoags are played by real Wampanoags, and presumably the Pilgrims are played mostly by Plimoth descendents, too. Much of it is about daily life.1621 : a new look at Thanksgiving / by Catherine O’Neill Grace and Margaret M. Bruchac with the Plimoth Plantation ; photographs by Sisse Brimberg and Cotton Coulson.
