Today’s weather movie: “My Big Fat High Pressure System.”
This large high will dominate our forecast for the next week. For
today the high is centered over the Great Lakes, and the clockwise
flow from out of it will send a dry easterly wind our way. That high
will shift tomorrow, and the wind will become more southerly. Temps
will soar back toward 90 for the remainder of the 7 Day Forecast.
Humidity will gradually increase again this weekend. No rain is in
sight.
Unless you’re reading this in the Upper Mississippi Valley into
Northeast Nebraska. The Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a
severe weather risk for those folks today, mainly from large hail and
damaging winds.
The weather stinks in Cheyenne. The smoke from a wildfire
burning west of Fort Collins, Colorado blew into Wyoming, leaving a
pungent odor around the state’s capital city, about 50 miles north of
the fire. The fire 15 miles west of Fort Collins has burned 73 square
miles.
Grass and mulch fires have already been noted around here, and the
following numbers don’t promise any improvement.

CHART OF THE DAY:
Attached is a map of Normal Precipitation for the past 90 days,
courtesy of the Indiana State Climatologist. It covers the period from
the middle of March until now. Central Indiana has only gotten 50-75
percent of typical precipitation.
It’s worse in northeast central Indiana, from Marion northward, and
also in the southwest corner of the state. It’s not great – but better
– in the southeast corner of Indiana, with at least 75% of usual
precip. Let’s put it this way: no one’s over 100.
The newest nationwide “Drought Monitor” will be released later today,
and I’ll give you the update in this space tomorrow. Spoiler alert:
it’s not going to get any better.
WIKI-POTEETIA:
75 percent of tornado warnings are false alarms in the U.S. But that
one out of four could kill you.
INDY ALMANAC:
