Not as cloudy, not as breezy, not as cool today. What more do you want?
Maybe some rain? Scattered Saturday showers produced paltry precipitation for most. Indianapolis recorded .03 of an inch. Bloomington got .02 of an inch. In Terre Haute, a similar story: .05 of an inch.
I think yet another upper level wave could deliver a similar result Monday. The best chances for the most rain will come in the southwest corner of the state.
Sunday began with patchy fog across central Indiana. Lafayette reported visibilities under a mile at one point.
Sure, there’s always coverage of Post-Race-Day-Chicken-Bone-Trash, and Post-Race-Day-Left-Behind-Cars-And-Furniture, but what about Post-Race-Day-Weather? I think today, for example, would be a great day to have a huge outdoor sporting event! Today’s temps will be more than ten degrees cooler than Race Day last week.
Last year the weekend after the “500” wasn’t so pretty. Rain totaled .83 of an inch in Indy, and it was still in the 90s on that Saturday.
Friday’s cloudy and cool weather got me thinking: “there haven’t been many of these days in a long time.” Sure enough, a little weather history research shows the during “Meteorological Spring” (March, April, May) Indianapolis reported only 19 cloudy days. Only THREE in May! Hey-S.A.D.! TTFN! (Good luck decoding that.)
You can really see the nice days reflected in the latest Indiana crop report. There hasn’t been much to keep farmers out of the fields compared to last year’s stormy Spring. Ninety-six percent of corn acreage has emerged compared with 36 percent last year and 60 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition is rated 56 percent good to excellent compared with 44 percent last year at this time.
Ninety-three percent of the intended soybean acreage has been planted compared with 23 percent last year and 51 percent for the 5-year average.
There are some drought concerns with ag interests in about the northern third of the state. BTW: Who’s hungry for some corn-on-the-cob after those last two paragraphs?
