There’s about a 30 percent chance you could see a shower or storm this afternoonp. Blame (or credit, depending on your disposition) an upper level low that moves out by sunset tonight.
Breezes today could gust to 25mph.
It won’t be as cool as yesterday, but still below average. That changes tomorrow. Most of next week is pretty close to normal. And it’ll probably BE pretty, with plenty of dry weather.
Dry weather won’t help the drought spreading from southwest and north central Indiana, although this past week’s rain provided some temporary relief. And I do have one more rain chance for you beyond today. Another wave in the upper atmosphere is scheduled to move through on Monday. Again, about a 30-40 percent chance.
One nice thing about our recent dry spell – no severe weather. May is normally a dangerous month, but it seems we got the worst of the spring season over with…in winter this year, with U.S. outbreaks in January and February. Nobody lost their life in tornado related storms across the country in May. That hasn’t happened in May since 2005.
Today IS the anniversary of the largest Indiana tornado outbreak. I always remember it because my oldest son was about to turn one year old.
The day was June 2 1990. There were 37 tornadoes that day, a record for Indiana, with a total of 65 tornadoes through parts of the Midwest and Ohio Valley. Seven of the tornadoes were rated “F4″ with winds estimated at greater than 207 mph.

I’ve also attached the Weather Service’s map of all the tornado tracks from that evening. Click here to see that.
