Take a deep breath. We are finished with the 80’s and 90’s for the rest of the week and at least half the weekend.
Expect breezy, dry west to northwest winds today and a good dose of sunshine. The mix tomorrow will be mostly clouds, and we’ve got a decent shot at wonderfully wet, widespread water. Shower chances will begin first thing Thursday, and there could be some rumbles of thunder Thursday afternoon.
The best rain chances comes Thursday evening and late night. The chart above shows projected rain totals for today through early Friday morning, and you can see the blue bulls-eye of one-inch-plus totals across the state.
You’ll also notice the chart indicating 2-4 inches of Beryl-related rain today in parts of the Carolinas.
Rain tomorrow would complement some pretty good precipitation yesterday. Better luck next time, Lafayette.
TUESDAY TOTALS
.67″ Muncie
.48″ Shelbyville
.36″ Indianapolis
.24″ Terre Haute
.14″ Bloomington
.04″ Lafayette
Rain will relent Friday, but low pressure will help pull even cooler air into the Indiana mix. How about highs in the 50s over parts of the state?
Even with the recent rain Indianapolis is only up to 2.56 inches of precip for the month. That’s 2.18″ less than average. The year to date total is 14.92 inches. The average is 17.09, and by last year we’d counted 24.13 inches.
Temperature trends may also leave you optimistic. The 90s are out of the picture for some time, and Indianapolis will go below average Thursday through Saturday. Enjoy while you can. Both the 6-10 day and 8-14 day trends have the state again above average on temperature – and below average on precipitation.
If I’ve done my math correctly then May 2012 could hit the all-time top 5 with respect to average May temperature in Indy.

POLLEN COUNT
Some of the lowest levels in weeks are on the way. We’ll be falling through the “medium-high” range today, into “medium” Thursday and Friday. Indy will actually be in the “low-medium” category by Saturday!
