Fun in the sun through Friday as high pressure drifts out of western Illinois Thursday morning to West Virginia Saturday morning. Winds flowing clockwise out of that high will bring us a light northwesterly flow today, switching to the southwest side tomorrow. That will help put us back above average again for Friday’s temperatures. Yesterday was the first day this month with below normal numbers, and today may be the last for awhile.
There are rain chances from Saturday evening through Monday (sorry Moms), but at the moment nothing severe or heavy is expected. Maybe up to a quarter inch of precip in central Indiana, and up to half an inch in the south, which will be closer to a wave of low pressure Sunday and Monday.
Earlier this week I promised precipitation information and so I’ve included an analysis of the totals across the USA from January through April. All of Indiana is shown a little below average, but recent rains have put us back around average in central Indiana. Still a little behind in the north central and southwest parts of the state. Not much in the way of water yesterday. Indianapolis measured .13″ inch of rain. Small numbers were reported statewide. Bloomington got .02″, Shelbyville had .04″, and Lafayette ended up with .05.”
COAST TO COAST:
Water spouts typically stay over…water. But one came onshore on Grand Isle Louisiana yesterday afternoon. No injuries, but there were some damaged roofs, downed power lines, and nervous beachcombers.
Severe weather chances today seem to be confined to southern Texas. A slow mover in northwest Mexico will track across the southern Great Plains today through Saturday. Although this system is weakening, it will encounter an air mass with abundant moisture, leading to the potential for heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms. Amounts ranging from 2 to 4 inches will be common across southern and southeast Texas from this evening through Friday afternoon, with locally heavier amounts up to 6 inches possible. Locations that may get the heavy rainfall include Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi and Houston.
POLLEN COUNT:
Indy will be in the “Medium-High” range again today. The count increases slightly tomorrow through the weekend, but will stay just below “High.”
INDY ALMANAC:
Average Indianapolis high today is 71 and the average low is 51. Records are 92 and 28. The sunrise time is 6:35 and the sun sets at 8:49.
