AFTERNOON UPDATE:
I’m removing the slight chance of storms from the Saturday afternoon forecast, with the exception of the southern quarter of the state, including Evansville.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Timing is everything in the Mini-Marathon, and in weather. Thunderstorms made a run on Indianapolis just ten hours prior to the Race’s start time. Wind damage was reported to trees and a storage shed in Boone County from those storms.
This morning you should double check our radar but it appears timing is *good* for the race. Just don’t run south for too long, or you’ll run into rain and plenty of puddles in southern Indiana. Two to four inches or rain has been measured since last night in some areas from Bloomington down to Louisville, where another type of race awaits.
MINI-CAST:
The morning will feature a gradual transition from the overcast to partly sunny skies. Expect a muggy Mini. If you’re running, you won’t be stationary, but a front will be. That stalled front will combine with a moist air mass to keep scattered thunderstorms chances alive today. The most likely time will be this afternoon. It doesn’t look like severe weather will threaten today, but it could return by tomorrow evening.
Dew points will still be juicy, so that sweat won’t evaporate easily. Don’t expect help from the breeze. Winds will be fairly light in this stalled pattern, with an east to southeasterly flow around 5mph.
If you want to walk it off tonight, it should be just partly cloudy. It might be a bit less humid tonight and Sunday. Partly sunny weather is expected tomorrow, with rain and storm chances returning Sunday evening.
KY DERBY:
Do those big hats keep the rain off your face? There is a 30% shower and storm chance at Churchill Downs, where it has already rained and stormed very early today. The hot and humid high will be 86.
